Additionally, ECO PRO Mode analyzes each personal driving style, the traffic situation and the journey profile to calculate the most fuel-efficient, alternate route, for added savings without losing any time.
Imagine what it could be like to open the trunk quickly and easily with just one small gesture. Now, BMW's Comfort Access system offers convenient, keyless access to vehicles when the remote key is simply carried in your pocket or purse. This hands-free function automatically unlocks and opens the trunk when you stand behind the vehicle and move your foot under the center of the rear bumper. You can even lock and unlock the doors by merely touching the handle.
As an innovative feature of BMW ConnectedDrive, it significantly increases convenience when loading luggage or doing work at the rear of your BMW—and to rule out any misuse, the vehicle only opens to a person carrying a key that the system identifies through radio signals.
Four-Zone Climate Control
Four-zone climate control - with four individual temperature settings - gives every passenger a personalized and comfortable environment. Choose a lower air temperature around the head and chest than in the footwell, or warm up during colder, winter months. During any time of year, here's a BMW 7 Series Sedan that feels just as luxurious as it looks.
As a function of BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW Apps lets you access social networks, music plug-ins and video playback through your iPhone and see them on the display screen. Tune in to web radio and search for stations from around the globe by name, location or genre; store favorite entries on your iPhone to take from one vehicle to another; access content from Twitter and Facebook accounts to stay updated with what's happening amongst friends and family; and enjoy music on-demand with Pandora Radio.
iDrive 4.2: Now with Touchpad
The new BMW iDrive 4.2 navigation system showcases an optimized menu display with state-of-the-art technologies, such as advanced real-time traffic data. In addition, a new iDrive rotary controller with an integrated touchpad makes it easy for passengers on-the-go to enter destinations, phone numbers and more.

Performance & Efficiency
3.0-Liter, TwinPower Turbo Inline 6-Cylinder Engine, 315 hp
This unique engine combines twin-scroll TwinPower Turbo, High Precision Direct Injection and BMW's Valvetronic variable intake technology to help the engine "breathe" better. The result: Turbo lag that's virtually eliminated, with one of the most fuel-efficient ratings in its class.
The BMW 740i Sedan develops a maximum output of 315 hp at 5,800 rpm, and redlines at 6,000 rpm. A peak torque of 330 lb-ft kicks in almost immediately—at 1,300 rpm—and continues to push passengers back in their seats, as it escalates to 4,500 rpm.
Driving Dynamics Control
Driving Dynamics Control is available at the push of a button, and allows drivers of the BMW 7 Series to select a mode that best reflects their preferred driving style. Whether it's Comfort, Comfort +, Sport or Sport +, each setting adjusts the suspension, steering, transmission shift points, and dynamic stability control, for either higher levels of comfort or sportier on-road dynamics.
Additionally, ECO PRO Mode can help achieve a fuel savings of up to 20%. It uses engine management software to adjust the output characteristics (for example, the automatic transmission upshifts sooner and remains in a higher gear longer), and also includes an optional "coasting mode," where the powertrain is decoupled as soon as the driver eases off of the accelerator at speeds between 30 and 100 mph. This action eliminates engine braking to improve fuel efficiency.
Red lights, traffic jams, train crossings. In everyday driving situations, there are countless instances when the engine is idling and unnecessarily burning fuel.
Instead, the driver can opt to use the Auto Start-Stop function, which automatically switches off the engine as the driver engages the brake, and as the vehicle remains stationary. However, it's only activated when energy is not needed for anything else—such as the air-conditioning system or rear window defroster—and as soon as the driver's foot leaves the brake pedal, the engine starts up again. In practice, it's both a seamless and comfortable way to save fuel.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is usually driven using engine power, which requires fuel. With Brake Energy Regeneration, the generator produces electricity when the driver brakes or takes a foot off the accelerator.
Kinetic energy that was previously unharnessed is then transformed into electrical energy and fed directly into the battery. This way, additional power is created without unnecessary consumption.
Safety & Security
BMW Assist eCall and TeleServices
In an emergency, BMW Assist eCall, now standard in most BMWs, automatically sends your location and relevant information to police and EMT services, saving critical time when you need it most. Also standard with BMW Teleservices, your BMW knows exactly when the next servicing appointment is coming up and informs you about any maintenance requirements. Your BMW Service Center will call you to arrange an appointment. Wherever you are, your BMW Service Center is at your side.
Adaptive LED Headlights
The Adaptive LED Headlights give the BMW 7 Series its unmistakable appearance. The accent line with its indicator function, for example, cuts into the top portion of the BMW's characteristic light rings to redefine the expression of the vehicle's entire front section.
But what's more, form and function unite in the new and distinctive double-round headlights. These daytime running, low and high beams, shine from the three-dimensional Corona rings, while LED lights illuminate the road as the cones of the Adaptive Headlights follow its every turn.
When maneuvering slowly around a bend, integrated cornering lights automatically brighten the area at the side of the vehicle. And when high-beam assistance is selected, the vehicle automatically turns on the high beams when needed, as long as the lights of another vehicle are not detected.
BMW Night Vision
Optional BMW Night Vision allows drivers to see animals and pedestrians up to 900 feet (or 300 meters) ahead, in the dark. Utilizing infrared technology from the vehicle's built-in, front camera, the BMW 7 Series displays potential road hazards on the Navigation system so drivers can avoid them well before they're visible to the naked eye.
In the BMW 7 Series, Night Vision Pedestrian Detection technology highlights animals and humans, and alerts the driver accordingly. In dangerous situations, a yellow pre-alert appears, while in very critical situations an acute-approach red warning symbol will appear as an acoustic warning sounds.
Active Blind Spot Detection
Looking forward isn't just a metaphor for our desire to innovate. It's also quite literal. The available Active Blind Spot Detection system identifies vehicles in areas which are difficult to see from the driver's seat, helping to avoid collisions when changing lanes and making it easier to keep your eyes focused on the road ahead. Using radar sensors at the rear of the vehicle, which monitor the traffic behind it, this system alerts drivers if another car is in their blind spot by displaying a light on their side-view mirror housings. And if the driver doesn't notice the warning and signals to indicate changing lanes, the light on the mirror housing will begin to flash as the steering wheel vibrates.
Active Cruise Control
The BMW 7 Series with Active Cruise Control and Stop & Go functionality now comes with something new—a Front Collision Warning System. With this system, drivers are alerted if they are in danger of driving into the back of the vehicle in front of them.
First, a symbol appears in the instrument cluster and in the optional Head-Up Display. Next, if the situation becomes more critical, the symbol starts to flash while a warning sound is heard. When it's necessary, the brake system also prepares to engage.
Even when Active Cruise Control is not in use, the Front Collision Warning System remains active.
